A sailboat washed ashore at Point Dume Wednesday morning at 6:30 a.m., according to Ryan Addison, the local ocean lifeguard specialist. The captain “was sailing from Santa Barbara to the harbor in Los Angeles when he fell asleep and went aground,” Addison said. Once on shore, the captain contacted the U.S. Coast Guard who routed the call to a local lifeguard station. The 37-foot sailboat washed up on shore between Big Dume and Little Dume beaches. While the boat was damaged, the captain and his two cats were unharmed.
