California State Parks announced the closure of several local campgrounds due to the strong storm system that has brought ferocious surf and heavy rain to Malibu. Each of the park sites are on the far west side of town near the Ventura county line.
Among the local park sites closing, according to State Parks Angeles District Superintendent Craig Sap:
–Mugu Beach is closed because of heavy surf and dangerous storm surge. The beach is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Monday.
–Thornhill Broome Campground closed until at least Friday. The waterline has been exposed by storm surge resulting in a break in the pipe. Rock and debris cover most of the roadway.
–Sycamore Cove Beach is closed because of heavy surf and dangerous storm surge. The beach is tentatively planned to reopen on Monday.
–La Jolla Groupcamp is closed until Tuesday.
–Point Mugu Back-country is closed with a planned reopening on Tuesday.
