Actor John Malkovich directs and stars in the multimedia concert presentation, “Seduction and Despair,” which will be performed at Barnum Hall Theatre in Santa Monica this weekend.
The concert, which is being conducted in collaboration with the Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra, is about the late serial killer Jack Unterweger, whose grisly killing streak in the early 1990s took place in Malibu and elsewhere in the Los Angeles area. Malibu figures prominently in the story. With a concept and musical program by Musica Angelica’s music director Martin Haselböck and concept/libretto by Austrian writer/director Michael Sturminger, the production will also feature sopranos Celine Ricci and Robin Johannsen, costumes by noted film costumer Birgit Hutter, and video and lighting by Andreas Hutter.
The performances will take place on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. Barnum Hall is located at 601 Pico Blvd. Tickets cost $25 to $49 for general audiences, $31 to $43 for seniors and $12 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.MusicaAngelica.org or by calling 310.458.4504.
