You describe (Malibu Times, October 17) the persons involved in the petition drive for a referendum to repeal Malibu’s Local Coastal Plan as a “broad cross section of the local political spectrum.” More like A to B of a spectrum A to Z.
Speaking as a long-time Malibu resident (35 years) and environmental and rural neighborhoods protectionist, I recognize many of the cited referendum activists as members of the same crowd of unfettered property rights ideologues and extremists who, over the years, have consistently opposed any restrictions on development intended to protect Malibu’s natural environment and rural character.
Let’s be honest about where people stand and where they are coming from. As a start, The Malibu Times should, in the interest of honest, reasoned debate, quit misrepresenting the facts and the views of the community.
