Around the globe overfishing has decimated all marine life.
There are approximately 44,000 super trawlers or industrial floating slaughterhouses with deep freezers. They employ two percent of the global fisherman, yet catch well over 50 percent of all edible sea life.
Each year, as much as 25 million metric tons of sea life (in fishing jargon called by-catch) are needlessly killed and haphazardly discarded, including marine masterpieces like albatross, sea turtles, sharks, dolphins and whales. These creatures are accidentally hooked or caught in nets so large that one dozen 747 Boeing jets can easily fit inside the mouth of one net.
For the meantime, super trawlers are sidestepping tighter regulations by downsizing their length from two-football fields to one.
Three weeks ago, one downsized super trawler named Geelong Star was greenlit off Albany, Western Australia to begin rapaciously destroying all marine life.
The global slaughter of marine life is simply the largest massacre of wildlife on the planet. It’s time to end this deranged ecocide because if the oceans die, we die.
