Homeless Petition

Now in the national spotlight, thousands of people from around the country are weighing in to ask the city of Malibu to “allow” local churches the right to feed homeless individuals.

Following a meeting last week between city officials and volunteer leaders, an unnamed source reached out to area TV networks with the news that the City of Malibu had asked Malibu United Methodist Church to stop its weekly Wednesday night dinners for the homeless—claims city officials later maintained were “misinformation.” According to the city, there was no official demand or ruling that the dinners stop.

Now, a petition drive is circulating asking the city to allow the Methodist Church to continue the Wednesday night tradition. The survey already had more than 25,000 names by the time this brief was published and more added every minute.

The latest word from both the Methodist Church and SOS (Standing on Stone) which conducts a Thursday night dinner for homeless in Malibu, was that the planned dinners would be suspended, but more details behind that action and the factors that went into the decision to suspend the meals were not immediately available.
