Some Malibu residents were jolted this week after receiving a letter from the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District requesting a hefty payment for a sewer assessment. The $7,000 fee was a shock for many residents who use septic tanks and whose mountain- and canyon-area homes are not sewer accessible.
There has never been a proposed sewer for remote Malibu areas.
When contacted about the letters, the LVMWD technical services support specialist Andrea Kajganic said: “Just wanted to let you know that there is no sewer available in your area therefore please disregard the letter you have received.”
Residents in the Malibu Civic Center area will be converting to a sewer system currently being constructed.
