Polluters under fire

Nothing has happened to prevent the commercial developers in the lower floodplain of Malibu’s center from polluting, despite over two decades and millions of dollars spent on studies to prove that these developers have significantly contaminated the soils and ground water, which immediately impacts the creek, and the swimmers, surfers and fisherman at world famous Malibu Surfrider Beach.

Why, after two decades and millions of dollars on studies, hasn’t the city stopped this major source of continuing pollution? Because the majority of the City Council over the last decade has voted in favor of allowing these polluters to remain in place. Perhaps it’s because these commercial developments are a source of city revenue, even though they only contribute less than 2% of the city’s annual tax income.
