Junior lifeguards claim victory at regionals

Four Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguards from Zuma Beach, along with one of their instructors, earned wins in a number of categories at the JG Regional Competition in Newport Beach July 27-28. Junior Guards Rachel Atkins, Liz Boland, Caroline Pietrzyk and Farah Stack took part in the highly competitive event, which drew participants from San Diego to Santa Cruz.

Atkins, who competed in the AA division, placed first in the swim relay, second in the individual paddleboard competition and second in the paddleboard relay.

Competing in the A division, Pietrzyk placed first in the individual distance run and fourth in the run-swim-run relay.

Boland placed second in the individual flags competition and seventh in the run relay.

Stack placed first in the swim relay and ninth in the individual run. Both Boland and Stack competed in the B division.

Instructor Shari Latta earned first in her age group for the 2K run, paddleboard race, ironman race and surfski race. She also placed third in the taplin relay and the paddleboard relay.
