The July numbers are in, and Malibu has continued its trend of cutting back on water waste — but the fight is far from over.
According to Dave Brideman, a representative from Metropolitan Water District 29, which covers Malibu, Topanga and surrounding areas, Malibu is doing a “nice job.”
The month of July saw a 27 percent cut in District 29 water use over the same month in 2013. This follows a June cut of 24 percent and a May cut of 20 percent.
“We’re still below the target the state has set for the district, but well on our way,” Brideman reported to City Council during its Aug. 24 meeting.
When asked how Malibu’s numbers compare to inland communities’, Brideman put a positive spin on the data.
“Malibu has some room to grow,” Brideman said. “Malibu’s lagging behind, but there’s also a lot more room to grow.”
