Updated: Red Flag Warning Issued for Nov. 8-9

[Update: Wednesday, Nov. 7, 1:35 p.m.]: Southern California Edison is currently monitoring its circuits in western Malibu for possible power shut-offs as part of the Power Safety Shut-off Program.

Per an alert from the City of Malibu, the two circuits in question are located west of Zumirez Drive. This morning, the National Weather Service upgraded a fire weather watch to a red flag warning.

The red flag warning is in effect from 10 a.m. on Nov. 8 through 10 p.m. on Nov. 9. 

“The city is in contact with all partner agencies to coordinate preparations for possible power outages,” the alert stated.

Residents are advised to prepare for a possible power outage. Contact SCE at 800.611.1911 for any questions regarding the possible shut-off.

NWS also warns a fire weather watch may be issued for Sunday and Monday, Nov. 11-12, due to Santa Ana winds.


 

A fire weather watch has been issued for Nov. 8-9 by the National Weather Service for the valleys and coastal areas of Ventura and Los Angeles counties. The watch is in effect starting  at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 through 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9.

According to NWS, moderate Santa Ana winds are expected to gust through the area, with peak winds on Thursday night with the “potential for gusts in the 35 to 50 mph range.” (Gusts as high as 60 miles per hour could occur in the mountains.

There will also reportedly be low relative humidity across the area.

A fire weather watch is one step before a red flag warning; NWS expects the watch to turn into the warning on Wednesday.
