Summer fun has begun with a variety of new pop-up stores and fundraisers making a splash throughout Malibu last week. A benefit for local nonprofit Mending Kids was held at The Bailey Group’s launch party for Ali and Jay, a women’s “edgy and elegant” clothing store, sister store Bailey44, as well as Blushington’s “Makeup and Beauty Lounge.”

Partygoers came out  to support Mending Kids, knowing that they were spending for a good cause, since 20 percent of the proceeds benefitted the nonprofit.

Many children receiving help from Mending kids have called Malibu home while receiving care. Mending Kids Director Dorothy Lucey described one such child from Ethiopia.

“When he first came, he had 10 pounds of tumors on his hands. His hands looked like basketballs — now he plays basketball. He’s come once a year for the past eight years,” Lucey shared. “He considers several of the Malibu Guild girls his ‘Moms.’” she said.

The launch party began at 10 a.m. with a Happy Hour from 4 – 6 p.m. Partygoers received 10 percent off their purchase for joining the festivities.
