A man wearing a Santa hat was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, felony evasion and resisting arrest Tuesday afternoon after leading the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Sheriffs on a car chase through Malibu and part of Ventura County.
The chase started at approximately 1:23 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway at Corral Beach after deputies received calls about an erratic driver, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills station.
When deputies tried to pull over the driver, 24-year-old James Allen, he sped off westbound on PCH.
“During the pursuit, the suspect drove on the wrong side of the road, failed to stop for traffic lights and drove in the center median,” according to Malibu/Lost Hills officials.
After 30 minutes of pursuit, the suspect stopped near Las Posas Road in Ventura County but refused to obey commands from deputies.
He resisted nonlethal rounds from deputies and a Taser shock. Deputies got Allen into custody after having to physically confront and tackle him.
Five deputies and the suspect suffered minor injuries during the altercation.
