In a tournament hosted by Grace Brethren High School in Simi Valley earlier this month, the Malibu High School varsity softball team headed home with a third place trophy after winning three of its four games.
The team was spurred by co-captain Lauren Haag, who currently has a streak of 10 consecutive hits. Jamie Samuel pitched a two-hitter to defeat Vaughn High School 9-1, and a one-hitter to shut out Western High School 9-0.
Pitcher Sarah Zweig avenged the team’s only tournament loss by defeating Santa Paula High School on the final day, 8-3. Head Coach Ari Jacobs observed that the team “is just where we want to be,” headed into the heavy part of the season following spring break.
The Sharks’ next home games at Malibu High School will take place April 23 against Villanova, and April 28 against Grace Brethren, both at 3:30 p.m.
