Madison Smith, a third grader at Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School, was honored Nov. 5 at a statewide ceremony for gifted children hosted by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.
Smith was invited to the awards ceremony based on her exceptional performance on a rigorous, above-grade level test given to second through eighth grade participants, a result of two years of challenging work with Christi Hovest at PDMSS.
She joined other award recipients at the state ceremony at Loyola Marymount University, where each student was individually honored.
The Center for Talented Youth has been recognizing exceptional elementary and middle school students since 1979.
