A sign thief appears to be making the rounds, as many residents in Malibu Park and Point Dume say their pro-Measure R signs have disappeared from their front yards in the last few days, and the supposed thief can allegedly be seen on surveillance cameras.
Neighbors allege the surveillance collected thus far shows a white male carrying several signs in Malibu Park. Multiple still shots of surveillance were submitted to The Malibu Times on Thursday.
“He zig-zags down the street,” one person said.
“The first time it happened was Tuesday,” a Malibu Park resident told The Malibu Times. “I had a lot of signs at my house, down Philip Avenue, down Morning View [Drive].”Â
Similar incidents were reported in Point Dume on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and detailed in several emails and calls to The Malibu Times.
“They swept Point Dume again today,” one reader said in an email Thursday.
“I left my home at 12:30 p.m. [on Thursday],” another person wrote. “There were 10 signs on my block. 3:00 p.m. — gone.”Â
As of Thursday afternoon, no police reports had been filed on the matter, but residents with potential surveillance camera evidence are considering having the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station take a report and potentially pursue charges. More surveillance was taken in the Point Dume neighborhood and could also be turned in to the Sheriff’s Department.Â
