Pepperdine University, whose student body is made up over 50 percent by minority students, according to Forbes, has hired its first black dean.
Award-winning educator Helen Easterling Williams, EdD, will assume the post of dean of the Graduate School of Education and Psychology on August 1 of this year. She will replace Dr. Margaret Weber, who announced her retirement in January.
Williams comes to Pepperdine with two decades of higher education leadership experience, according to Pepperdine’s website. In addition to experience as the dean of the School of Education at Azusa Pacific University, she most recently has been the president of Health Education & Welfare International, an educational consulting firm.
Williams’ scholarship currently focuses on education leadership, particularly as it relates to both technology and women.
