The Malibu AAA Waves, sponsored by Pepperdine University, earned second place in the California Little League District 25 Minors Spring Softball Tournament.

The Malibu Waves began the first of four games during the tournament with a night game in West Los Angeles against the Jayhawks. During the game, Sydney Morrison hit a triple and both Janet Ann Purtell and Tiare O’Herlihy hit two-run home runs. Solid pitching by Morrison and Purtell combined for a no-hitter, and the Waves emerged with an 8-6 win.

The Waves then earned wins over teams from Culver Marina and North Venice in the next two games, landing them in the championship game against the much older and undefeated University Dodgers. The game turned out to be a hard-fought battle down to the last out, with the Dodgers winning by one run.

Tournament highlights include the performance by Tiare O’Herlihy, who had five hits in seven at-bats with a home run, a triple, two walks, and nine RBI. Janet Ann Purtell pitched 11 innings and struck out 30 batters, while giving up only four runs. Sydney Morrison was the pitcher of record in every game, winning 3 and losing 1. Chloe Dyne also gave a stellar performance behind the plate during the games.
