Pepperdine University unveiled its partnership with the Los Angeles Homeland Security Advisory Council at a press conference in downtown Los Angeles early last week.

The council, a nonprofit organization focused on public safety, will partner with the university’s School of Public Policy

“The new enterprise, to be called the Homeland Security Advisory Council at the School of Public Policy, is positioned to prepare the current and next generation of public leaders by harnessing the school’s unique curriculum dedicated to exploring a full range of cross-sector and information solutions to public policy challenges,” a prepared statement from Pepperdine read.

The name change is set to occur on August 1.

The nonprofit focuses on meeting with local leaders and stakeholders to discuss and figure out solutions to benefit LA County residents in various sectors, in hopes of “building a more resilient Los Angeles,” as county Mayor Eric Garcetti described in the statement. The partnership aims to bring in students to learn about the process.

Pepperdine President Andrew K. Benton praised the work of the HSAC, and added, “That Pepperdine, through its School of Public Policy, is going to have a major hand in this important and shaping effort is a great opportunity and point of pride.”
