OK, kids! Today’s spelling word is “gated”…defined as the ridiculous insular term used by every Malibu real estate sales person and realty company as a “special” plus; keeping out the ruffians with a gigantic high wall; erupting from every development around huge ugly monster mansions; beginning to crop up every time a new buyer moves into Malibu Park; destroying the sense of community that we all should share. When a resident/developer installs a wall, non-permeable fence or a so-called gated community, he or she is saying, “I don’t want to get to know you neighbor, so stay away.” I think they stink.
