With less than three weeks remaining before Election Day, Malibu’s five city councilmembers have thrown their support behind Ted Lieu for U.S. Congress.
Lieu (D-Torrance) currently serves in the California Senate and is vying to replace long-serving U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Beverly Hills), who plans on retiring at the end of this term.
In their statements of support, Malibu councilmembers touted Lieu’s environmental accomplishments during his time as a California senator and said they hope he will continue protecting the environment at the Federal level.
“Ted Lieu has been an effective voice in Sacramento for coastal protection and education,” said Laura Rosenthal.
“[He] is the only candidate in the race to succeed Henry Waxman who shares his commitment to combating the effects of climate change, which is a direct threat to our city,” Joan House said.
Republican newcomer Elan Carr will face off with Lieu on Nov. 4. Lieu represents the 33rd State Senate District, which comprises South Bay cities such as Torrance. Malibu is not part of his district.
