Why do we ask readers to register?

First, we want to dismiss the notion that registering means you have to pay for something. Much of our Web site doesn’t require registration. The only portion that does is information generated by our own news staff.

The reason we require registration is to better know our readers. We ask this whether you are reading our print or on-line product. This aspect has always set us apart from other forms of media and information providers.

Our advertisers find more value in knowing we have a name/address list of our Web subscribers. This information helps keep our site as an advertiser-supported Web site instead of one supported by the reader.

We have never given away any subscriber information and don’t intend to. We will talk in general terms about our readers, but we don’t provide specific data about anyone. We may contact our subscribers with offers but we maintain the confidentiality of those subscriber lists.

Again, www.thepublicopinion.com is free to all who decide to register. As of February 1, 2006 more than 22,000 folks from around the nation and world have subscribed to our Web site.

If you want access to our entire newspaper, try a subscription to our e-Paper, our complete on-line edition. For more details go to http://ee.thepublicopinion.com and see the demo at http://ee.thepublicopinion.com/demo
