Impressive philanthropy

I was very disturbed when I read Arnold York’s last editorial. I would like to share a few thoughts about my friend, Ozzie Silna, and his dedication to Malibu.

Following are several local causes to which he contributes: Malibu Boys and Girls Club, Malibu High School, Webster School, The Ballet Studio, Malibu Stage Company, State Parks Foundation, Heal the Bay, Jewish Community Center, Chabad, Midnight Mission, Alzheimer’s Institute, Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis

His dedication goes far beyond financial contributions. He serves on the board of directors of Malibu Coastal Land Conservancy, Santa Monica Baykeeper, Serra Franciscan Retreat. He recently received Man of the Year award from People for Parks for his efforts to help provide parks in Los Angeles County, specifically in Malibu. He is primarily responsible for arranging the largest private donation that Malibu will receive toward the purchase of the Chili Cook-off site, a $500,000 gift from the Malibu Coastal Land Conservancy.

Arnold, I think the criticism of Ozzie is unfair and inappropriate. In fact, you awarded him the Dolphin Award for his philanthropy and environmental efforts just a few years ago. This man should be praised, not vilified.

Richard Hart Carrigan.
