I came across the senseless death of the young 21-year-old girl outside Moonshadows restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway as the first emergency vehicles were responding. She was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross the very busy highway.
Moonshadows has inadequate parking on the ocean side, all of which is for valet only, and valets also park cars along the highway. As a result, most patrons park across PCH on the north side and then fend for themselves crossing the four-lane major thoroughfare. This creates an exceptionally dangerous situation. As a result, the City of Malibu and Moonshadows are complicit in this girl’s death.
Here’s what needs to happen immediately. The city should shut the restaurant down until it does the following: opens its adjacent parking lot free to all patrons; install a traffic signal/cross walk at Moonshadows’ expense (since it would be the only benefiting party) in front of the restaurant; provide offsite parking as needed during prime business hours with free shuttles to nearby lots which now sit pretty much empty.
The city currently only suggests that valets be required to wear neon vests. This is not enough and the city will soon be named in lawsuits as a party which knowing the danger, chose to do nothing about it.
Act now, before more are killed.
