Born in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1953 in the shadow of the original Yankee Stadium, longtime Malibu resident William “Bill” P. Cooley Jr. passed away on Sept. 1, in Burlington, Vt., after a brief illness. He was 60 years old.

In addition to an advertising career that saw the launch of Spin Magazine and other noted rock and roll magazines, a loved one said, “Cooley was a beloved Malibu Little League Coach and he will be sorely missed by members of the community.”

Cooley is survived by three sons (Ryan and Derek of Portland and Evan of Las Vegas); seven sisters (Marianne Walker, Patricia Hazeltine, Doris Ruiz, Susan Rossidis, Jean Spears, Jennifer Cooley and Katherine Schmitt); three brothers (Fred Cooley, Sean Cooley and Stephen Schmitt); his longtime partner (Kate Stingley); and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service is planned for later this fall.
