Volunteers of the San Pedro Marine Mammal Care Center at Fort MacArthur released a rehabilitated female harbor seal pup at Leo Carrillo Beach.

The California Wildlife’s Center Marine Mammal Rescue Team rescued the seal (named Pamela after Malibu actress Pamela Anderson, who regularly volunteers for the center, because “she was beautiful, feisty and had the most amazing silver nails that looked like they had been manicured,” MMRT member Jonsie Ross said) at a Malibu beach in September; it had numerous cuts on its flippers and was breathing laboriously.

The seal’s prognosis was not good, but ufter several months of care at the San Pedro Center, she fully recovered.

Both the Marine Mammmal Care Center at Fort MacArthur and the California Wildlife Center operate with volunteers and donations. Information on volunteering time or donating money to either facility can be found online at: www.marinemammalcare.org and www.californiawildlifecenter.org
