I’m getting tired of cutthroat politics out to draw blood. I see election time as the opportunity to discuss issues and solutions and directions with the electorate. For me, the last straw was the attempt to deny one of our citizens her right by statute to run for a second term. The allegation against her was made late enough that it was impossible for anyone to run in her place. That smells to me of political trickery of the worst sort. It is the “gotcha” type of game too often played in a big urban metropolis such as Chicago or New York.
The cost of going through the circuit court and the appellate court to be told that the stature is quite clear and that Mrs. Barovsky is entitled to run for a second term has to have been an enormous cost for the city and the parties suing.
Just remember these people who sued joined with the rest of us in celebrating the acquisition of Bluffs Park. They also joined with their support in the acquisition of the City Park. What I’d like to see from every candidate is a position paper telling us what they think is important to be done in the next four years and how they would do it if they were elected.
