In response to “Blog: In the Industry” published on Aug. 17, 2017.
First, I would like to thank all at The Malibu Times for the wonderful coverage of our neighborhood. Great to have a “positive” community newspaper.
Every weekend, my wife and I head to Starbucks in Malibu for a cup of joe. I pick up a copy of The Malibu Times and read religiously. It is a weekend highlight. In the Aug. 17 edition, I read Burt Ross’s column regarding the “industry.” Yes, all of us in the area have run into someone in the “industry.” As a child who grew up watching and listening to Hoppy, Gene and Roy, we knew nothing of the “industry”—just the stars. Burt Ross made the point that we are all part of this “industry” and I agree. We, who watch, view and participate in discussions regarding what was recently on TV, movies, radio, etc… well, we are the single most important part of our “industry.”
The best way to describe this phenomenon was described by none other than Roy Rogers himself. In his tribute album, he sings a song about his career and all of us, his fans, who watched, listened and participated in this part of his life. He wrote and sang the following regarding all of us, by saying: “If it wasn’t for you there would be no me/ that’s exactly what I always say.”
Yes, Burt, we are all part of and in the “industry.” Thank you for your insight!
