A privately funded fireworks show scheduled off of the coast of Paradise Cove on Sunday went off early at 8 p.m., surprising residents who had expected it to begin at 9 p.m.
The LA County Fire Department issued a permit for the show and a notification was sent out by the City of Malibu on Friday.
On Tuesday, City of Malibu Public Information Officer Matt Myerhoff said, “the organizer requested on Sunday to have their fireworks display an hour earlier, and LA County Fire signed off on it.”
Though the organizer had gotten approval when they asked the LA County Fire Department, Myerhoff said, “City staff was not informed until we called them to ask about it.”
