Senior Aerobics

The Malibu Senior Center will host an aerobics course designed for the senior in mind on Thursday, Oct. 29.

The aerobics course is designed to be low-impact and focuses on maintaining cardiovascular health, strength and flexibility. Main exercises include simple jazz steps, stretching and sculpting on a mat. Participants will be treated to show tunes and 1950s era music.

The free, one-hour course will take place in the Backstage Theatre Room of Malibu City Hall on Thursday, Oct. 29 and starts at 12 p.m.

Halloween Costume Karaoke

Everyone is invited to come dressed up like their favorite singer and come sing or to enjoy the festivities at costume karaoke at the Malibu Senior Center. Admission is free and guests are encouraged to bring snacks for everyone to enjoy. Karaoke will take place on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 3 – 5 p.m.

This month’s happy hour will be hosted by jazz singer Tay’me Yo’to with special guest Bruce Leonard.

Monarch Butterfly Lecture

The Malibu Senior Center will host a lecture by a representative from the Malibu Monarch Project, a Malibu-based nonprofit focused on the return of a healthy Monarch butterfly population to the area, on Monday, Nov. 2.
The lecture will focus on Monarch migration, why the population has declined in Malibu and how residents can encourage their return.

Milkweed plants, a Monarch favorite, will be available for purchase at the lecture.

The lecture will take place on Monday, Nov. 2, from 12 -1 p.m.

Positive Psychology Lecture

In conjunction with Pepperdine University, the Malibu Senior Center will host a lecture on the benefits of positive psychology, “The Power of Positive Psychology,” on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The lecture will be hosted by award-winning author Dr. Cindy Miller Perrin, a professor of psychology at Pepperdine University. Miller-Perrin has written numerous journal articles and book chapters on a range of topics including child maltreatment, positive psychology and faith development in college students.

The free lecture will take place in the Malibu City Hall Multipurpose Room on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.
