Safety comes first

In response to Lori Gray’s letter last week, applauding me for my efforts to get a traffic signal installed at Corral Canyon, I would like to say, “thank you” for all your support and help as we have gone through the process. Reading 12-year-old Faith Brown’s letter leaves no doubt in my mind that my neighbor, Richard Neiter, and I did the right thing in pursuing the signal. For the record, I like small town Malibu the way it is and I have never liked the idea of having a traffic signal in front of my house. However, after years of watching people get injured and thinking about what could potentially happen to a child like Faith, or anyone else who uses the intersection, I had a change of heart. I realized that there are some things in life that are more precious and important than my being inconvenienced by a traffic signal. The city anticipates work on the signal to begin February 2006, and knowing that Faith and her family will be safer, I will welcome it.
