Letter: Effects on Urgent Care

The Friends of the Malibu Urgent Care Center strongly disagree with the contention by the advocates of Measure R that the Malibu Urgent Care Center is not affected by this initiative. We are definitely affected. When the lease on this more than 60-year-old building expires, there is no guarantee of a renewal by the owner. In addition, there are no other buildings in Malibu to move into that would provide the requirements of ingress, egress, etc. an urgent care center requires. We would also lose the endowment of 5,000 square feet of one dollar per year of new space.

As an apolitical organization, we regret having been reluctantly thrown onto the stage of a political football fray, which has nothing to do with the purpose of our organization. Our function is solely to ensure the sustainability and quality medical care of an urgent care center our community depends upon and needs.
