Nomination Period for Malibu City Council Starts July 16

Local residents interested in running for Malibu City Council have less than a month before the nomination window opens on Monday, July 16. Physical packets may be picked up at the city clerk’s office at City Hall during business hours; the city advises those interested to schedule an appointment with City Clerk Heather Glaser by calling 310.456.2489 ext. 228 or emailing hglaser@malibucity.org.

Prior to raising money for campaigns, candidates must submit a Declaration of Intent to Solicit and Receive Contributions form as well as a Fair Political Practices Commission Form 501 to the city clerk. The forms are available for download at malibucity.org/elections. 

Local voters can also visit the URL for the most up-to-date information on voter registration, ballots and candidates.

In a statement shared by the City of Malibu, Mayor Rick Mullen said, “Participating in elections, whether by voting or running as a candidate, is an important way to make sure the city reflects your needs, dreams and concerns, so I encourage everyone in Malibu to be involved.” 

Candidates who have announced their bid for the two City Council spots—vacated by Council Members Lou La Monte and Laura Rosenthal—so far are Planning Commissioner Mikke Pierson, school activist and former AMPS President Karen Farrer, former Malibu Times Assistant Editor Olivia Damavandi Ayreh and Public Works Commissioner Jim Palmer.

The nomination period ends on Friday, August 10.
