This letter was a speech that Les Moss made at Monday night’s Planning Commission meeting.
There have been several letters published in the last two weeks referring to planning in the city and I am responding to the comments made by former commissioner Jo Ruggles. She stated, “The planning process is corrupted … and completely broken in the city.”
These comments are not only irresponsible, reprehensible and absolutely rubbish, but also are insulting to all concerned. Her comments should be treated with the contempt they deserve. The planning process is indeed very difficult and complex, especially now that the Coastal Commission has imposed the onerous and punitive Local Coastal Plan on the residents of Malibu. The planning staff and all who are involved in planning have done, and continue to do, an outstanding job under trying circumstances.
The kind of attacks such as this by Ruggles and others are not constructive and, in fact, mislead and confuse Malibu residents. They appear to be deliberate efforts to disrupt and damage the city. I have no problem with honest and reasonable criticism by anyone, but I would hope that future comments will be made in a more appropriate and reasoned manner.
Les Moss
