California State Parks has been granted an extension to complete habitat restoration and construction within the wetland portion of the Malibu Lagoon project. According to the City of Malibu, the California Coastal Commission allowed State Parks to extend its Oct. 15 deadline to Oct. 31 to allow the contractor more time to plant in the area.

The extension is also intended to give the plants an opportunity to become more established before the dike is removed.

“This minor extension of time is not anticipated to result in any new impacts to sensitive species,” the commission wrote in a letter to State Parks.

No further changes to the lagoon project’s permit were made.
