of tune
My granddaughter attends a public fifth grade class in Malibu, and I was shocked to learn that the school district is forcing an all-school music program on Malibu that makes her have to choose between singing and playing an instrument. I think it’s great to have a district-funded program for the schools that need it. It might even be good for Malibu, if it were really better than what we had before.
The way it stands now, my granddaughter continues her flute, but isn’t a part of singing, which she loves as well. She won’t be a part of the big holiday or spring show. Last year, she did both. Why do those in Malibu have to move backwards, just so a district program can appear “equal” for all its schools? Equal is good, unless it’s equal mediocrity.
