Malibu native and skier Alex Colby will compete in the 2012 Junior Olympics in Montana this month. The 14-year-old has been training and racing with the Mammoth Mountain Ski Team for the past eight years to reach this goal. He will be representing the Far West Division and competing in the classic Alpine skiing disciplines of slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom.
Colby competed against 90 ski racers and qualified for the Far West men’s team on the strength of a second place, a third place and two fourth place finishes during qualifier race competitions that took place at Lake Tahoe and Mammoth. These races are sanctioned by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, the national governing body of Olympic skiing and snowboarding.
