The Malibu Township Council’s support for your neighbors in Malibu West over the Trancas Park plan has resulted in a number of requests to the MTC seeking more information on our organization. Many of you probably know the MTC from our successful “Candidate Forums” which we have conducted for every Malibu City election. These forums provide you with the opportunity to meet your City Council candidates, ask them questions and get the information you need to make an informed decision.
Between election years, the MTC focuses on projects that help maintain the quality of life that we have come to enjoy here in Malibu. For example, we have successfully worked to prohibit large trucks from traveling on PCH. We coordinated with other agencies to restore and reopen the Malibu Pier. We maintain historical archives that protect Malibu’s trails and open space. We also provided testimony against BHP Billiton’s proposed liquefied natural gas facility off Malibu’s coast and we joined with the Malibu community in the fight to prevent unsupervised camping from being permitted in unprotected areas of our fire-prone local mountains. Currently we are working with the residents of Malibu Park who are facing a proposal by the Santa Monica School Board to install permanent night lighting on the athletic field at Malibu High School with a schedule to light up this Malibu neighborhood some 200 plus nights a year.
If you would like to learn more about the MTC you can visit our Web site at www.MalibuTownshipCouncil.org. If you would like to support us in our efforts, please consider a MTC membership for $35.
