Actor and philanthropist John Savage will chair the Fire Fund Walk on Dec. 6 at Malibu High School to raise money for the Los Angeles County Fire Department Public Education Fund and the victims of the recent Southern California fires including Steve Rucker, a firefighter who lost his life in the latest fires, leaving behind a wife and two boys. The Malibu High School Key Club is hosting the event.

The festivities will include henna tattoos and face painting; live entertainment; a 1-mile walk around MHS’s track; a rejuvenation station with massage, facials and reflexology; a petting zoo; a fire prevention talk from the L.A. County Fire Dept.; a silent auction; food from D’Amore’s Pizza; exhibitor’s booths and a raffle.

“It’s for everyone,” event planner Linda Antico said.

Antico brought the idea to Mike Matthews, the principal of MHS, a month ago.

Since then, she added, it has evolved into a “huge sensational community event.”

Students and children have gotten involved. The homecoming King and Queen of MHS will give a speech to the firefighters. MHS is giving community service credit to students who get involved in the walk.

“We’re trying to get kids there to show that it’s important to give back,” Antico said.

Booth exhibitors are asked to donate 20 percent of their proceeds.

The raffle is another way people will be able to give back. The winner will get a tipi made by Native American Jesse Salcedo, valued at $5,000.

The Fire Fund Walk takes place at the Malibu High School athletic track from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets for the event are being sold at the tree stand on the corner of Heathercliff Road and Pacific Coast Highway. Registration forms for the walk can be obtained at Zuma Jay’s Surfboards, 22775 Pacific Coast Highway and at the MHS attendance office, 30215 Morning View Drive.
