Malibu Canyon Down to One Lane After Car Goes Over Side

[Update: Wednesday, July 4]: A 66-year-old woman “succumbed to her injuries,” per a social media post from Malibu Search and Rescue Team. MSAR was part of the group of sheriff and fire department personnel rescue party. 

The post goes on to state that the rescue operation took around six hours. 


[Update: 7:54 p.m.]: According to an update from the LA County Fire Department, one person was found in the vehicle. 

“It looks like they’re gonna be able to walk him out,” a spokesperson for the department said in a phone call with The Malibu Times

While it is unclear whether the person sustained any injuries, the official said no one had been taken to the hospital.

An alert from the City of Malibu stated that only one lane was open on Malibu Canyon Road, from Civic Center Way to Piuma Road, “until further notice.” Deputies are on scene to help direct traffic.


Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station and LA County Fire Department are responding to an incident involving a car going off the side of a cliff at Malibu Canyon Road on Tuesday evening, July 3. According to the fire department’s social media, the car was located approximately 200-300 feet over the cliff around 7:30 p.m. 

A helicopter has been deployed to the scene to assist in the rescue.

According to Lt. Garcia of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, an informant called the incident in at 6:56 p.m.
