Students at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School showed continuous improvement on the state’s recently released Academic Performance Index. The API gives each school a score between 200 and 1,000 based on student performance on standardized tests. The state has set 800 as the mark for all public schools to reach.

Juan Cabrillo students earned a score of 884, an increase of 60 points over the past two years. This is also the greatest growth of any school in the district over the same time period.

“There is great collaboration and teamwork in our school,” Juan Cabrillo principal Barry Yates said. “Our teachers demonstrate their dedication to student success by continuously improving their instructional practices. They strive to individualize instruction to meet the needs of every student and narrow the achievement gap.”
