Former Malibu resident Scott McKeown was killed in last week’s Glendale train crash. He was 42.
McKeown was raised in Malibu, where friends knew him as Lad. He attended public school in the city through eighth grade and later went to Santa Monica High School, where he graduated in 1980.
McKeown was a former Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station DCS member. Longtime friend Tom Fakehany said McKeown and his brother, Todd McKeown, spent many hours working on Ham radios at Fakehany’s house.
“I can tell you he [Scott McKeown] was just a plain good kid,” Fakehany said.
McKeown moved from Malibu about 20 years ago and was living in Moorpark at the time of his death. He was a member of the Glendale Model Railroad Club, and on the day of the crash was riding the train to get to work in Pasadena.
“He [Scott] loved riding the train to work,” Todd McKeown said.
McKeown is survived his wife, Susan, daughter, Ashley, and son, Brice.
