Many of you are not aware that the coyote is out searching for food and water and taking your cats and small dogs off your doorsteps. I have seen on Bonsall in bright daylight at 6 p.m., coyote going under the opening of a fence in a completely fenced in yard. They are craftsmen at entering under water pathways, openings and jumping. The easiest way to protect your pets is by bringing them in early and not letting them out early. If you prefer not to have a cat in your house, they buy an appropriate shed with a screened window to house them or try a closed garage. All of Malibu is susceptible to the coyote. They have been seen at 9 a.m., 4 p.m., full sun and times you would not expect and, with the lack of water this year, venturing further out. So the next time the sign goes up for missing cat, “reward,” ask the coyote.
