Once upon a time, there was a beautiful shining place with sparkling aqua-blue water and warm clean sand-the rolling hills lush with vegetation. Most of the people came, enjoyed, and left. Those that stayed lived to surf, ride horses in the mountains, walk the trails, enjoy nature’s wonders. Then more people came and soon it became a busy little city. Ahhhh.
For several years I’ve been saying that Papa Jack’s Skate Park would be the first to go. It’s almost as though the kids always end up getting in the middle of “progress.” The main issue-to make sure that Papa Jack’s Skate Park is immediately replaced with the input of the kids! This park is Papa Jack’s Legacy to the Malibu kids.
When the survey came around regarding a Whole Foods in Malibu, I was against having a corporation that is notorious for buying out small health food stores, then raising the prices nearly double, located in Malibu. When they bought out Wild Oaks, I was upset. There went many brands that you can’t find anymore. I wonder what happened to those small companies! We’re lucky to have PC Greens and the vitamin store in the Colony Shopping Center with lovely people who will try to find anything. But many can’t wait. The traffic should be interesting. And, the proposed plan of hooking up the center to the city’s planned wastewater treatment plant should be interesting.
Going into the New Year, many are thankful for all that Malibu offers. But the people are restless, unhappy, grief stricken. Some are now ready to fight the proposed Marine Protection Areas, although there may be some impact to sport fishing the MPAs are not forever. I say, give ‘em a chance. Oh, and Save the Lagoon.
