The 2014 Annual Malibu Rotary Club Middle and High School Singing Competition took place in Stauffer Chapel at Pepperdine University on Jan. 16. Music professionals Claudia Zahn, Sara Levy and Julia Holland judged the dozen entrants and picked three winners from the high school and middle school divisions.

Winning the competition also included a cash prize. There was a tie for third place in the middle school competition, so there were seven winners chosen overall. All of the participants are students in Amy Loch’s choral classes at Malibu Middle and High Schools. Music performed at the competition ranged from opera to Broadway show tunes.

Isobel Anthony, first place in the high school division, will be sponsored by the Malibu Rotary Club to compete in the Rotary District annual arts, dance, music and speech contest on March 1 at Loyola Marymount University for a $1,000 prize.
