Sometimes voting transcends civic duty to become an absolute delight. That describes Measure S. Measure S is the measure that will make it possible for us to buy the Chili Cook-Off. Ah, a dream we have dreamed for many years is our hope to see it become parkland that serves all citizens. And that dream that is now possible.
We have feared it would become but another huge shopping development drawing visitors from far and wide. If we can’t buy it, that’s the attraction it will become for the lucky developer that buys the land. The landowner deserves credit for offering us the first opportunity to buy this site. And this election is “it.”
Probably the main opposition to S is the architect who has already designed what the shopping mall will be, and perhaps all those who work with him. At least 99 percent of the citizens I have contacted to remind them to vote for S are as excited as I am. Our city has had many dreams for itself of beautiful parklands, creeks, ball fields, a Community Center, and a Learning Center to mention a few. This land is but the beginning of a city center serving the needs of the people living here.
