If you’ve ever volunteered or been to an event with volunteers in Malibu, you’ve probably met Sky Stipanowich. Those who nominated Stipanowich for a Dolphin Award said she is the first to step up whenever there is a need for service. Stipanowich has immersed herself into helping others and says it’s “a calling” that she enjoys very much. Others who know the 12-year Malibu resident commented on her deep commitment to her own family as well as an equal commitment to the community of Malibu and beyond.

“I have found a wonderful outlet here through my church and there are activities throughout the community where I can donate my time because I feel that we as human beings are called to help others,” the busy Stipanowich explained. “What better way to express your caring than to volunteer to help?”

Stipanowich has been serving as the co-chair for the annual Harvest of Hope event at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church. “It’s a wonderful way for the congregation to get together to work on a project to help others because all the money raised goes to help people who need help,” Stipanowich said. Funds raised go to the Malibu Community Labor Exchange, School on Wheels, Vida Joven (a Tijuana orphanage), Standing on Stone and Habitat for Humanity, among many other charities. The former TV news anchor also volunteers many hours to help the homeless.

“It’s what I need to be doing,” she said.

“If you’ve got the energy and the time, there’s nothing better than reaching out to help others and along the way you have a good time,” she shared. Stipanowich said she never dreamed of being recognized for her volunteerism but said, “It’s an extra added benefit of doing what I enjoy.”
