An equipment failure left 1,155 Southern California Edison customers without power in western Malibu on Monday evening.

Some were without power for as long as eight hours, according to Edison spokesperson Susan Cox. The outage occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The boundary of the outage stretched east from the Zuma Beach area to Sycamore Canyon near the Ventura/Los Angeles County line, Cox said.

Some customers on Broad Beach and Lunita roads had their power turned back on by 9:30 p.m., while many others did not get power back until 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
