Students from Malibu High School, Viewpoint School, Louisville High School, Oaks Christian High School and ACE Charter High School received scholarships and writing awards from The Malibu Woman’s Club annual scholarship contest on Monday, May 18. Ten high school students each received a $1,000 scholarship for scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service.

Eighteen fifth-graders from local elementary schools — Webster, Juan Cabrillo, Point Dume Marine Science and Our Lady of Malibu — also received writing awards for submitted essays on the topic: “For two weeks, do two things each day: Learn something and make someone else laugh. Record those two results in a daily journal. Describe your favorite experiences and explain why you have selected them.” First place winners from the elementary school division were awarded $150 and second place winners received $100.

More than 100 people attended the awards ceremony at the Sunset Restaurant in Malibu.
