The Malibu City Planning Commission will take a stab at untangling a growing mess on P-C-H tonight.

Nobu and Soho House are two popular newer establishments in Billionaire’s beach.

And boy … are they ticking off people in Malibu.

There’s a new … regular snarl at the combined entrance to the two places’ common parking lot.

The left turn entrance for traffic coming out of L-A is offset … and across the street … from McDonalds … which has its own left turn signal for cars coming out of the central Malibu area.

Although that’s not on the agenda for tonight … the topic is in play because of the parking safety study that is being discussed at city hall.

Both Nobu and Soho House are violating their city permits … not enough parking.

Parking valets at the two establishments are routinely seen driving patrons’ vehicles onto busy Pacific Coast Highway…. and parking them underneath office buildings across the highway.

Those parking spaces … under Coastal Commission permits and rules … are supposed to be made available nights and weekends for beach visitors …. not restaurant customers.

Nobu is short 10 parking places … and is supposed to use 10 spaces at the next door Soho House.

But the shared parking lot is jammed.

To aggravate matters … the city has put Nobu on notice that it has illegally expanded its seating area into the patio at the front of the restaurant …

And the fancy seafood place has put a storage container in its parking lot … whwre cars are supposed to be parked.

That’s not allowed.

In addition to the city complaint …. residents along Billionaire’s Beach say much of the street parking on P C H is being taken up by employees of Soho House and Nobu.

That’s also against the permits for the restaurant and the club.

The alleged violations of the parking rules …  at Soho House … will go before the city Planning Commissioners on Monday night.

City staff is recommending that the business be given three months to comply with the rules it accepted … when it opened a year ago.

The matters goes to the Planning Commission tonight.

Malibu Search and Rescue volunteers were called out yesterday to rescue a small dog that fell down well Sunday and had to be rescued in Malibu.

She fell into the well and was trapped at the bottom of the well for about four hours.

The well goes down about 30 feet.

Malibu Search and Rescue arrived and found the dog to be alert …. it took about four hours to set up for a rescue worker was lowered down by rope.

The volunteers brought the dog up safely.

The sheriff’s deputies who patrol Malibu say they wrote 331 tickets in February.

The citations break down into the following categories:

157 tickets were for Excessive Speed Citations .. and 137 of those were caught by radar. …

47 of the tickets were for Signs and Signals Violations.

3 lane straddlings …. or unsafe lane change.

There were 2 child seat belt violations.

And only one drunk driver caught.

No pedestrians or bicyclists got cited all during the month of February.

33 car crashes in Malibu during the month of February.

And 1 vehicle v bike crash with injures.

——-

President Donald Trump has extended his disaster designation for California … for damage from February’s series of wet storms.

In February, one of the most powerful storms to hit Southern California in years flooded freeways, triggered dramatic mudslides and downed hundreds of trees and power lines. At least four people died, including a man who was electrocuted by a downed power line in Sherman Oaks

34 counties have sought federal assistance … for storm related repairs and cleanup … including L-A County.

Malibu did not have any significant storm damage within the city … but did put its emergency crews on overtime.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says that … under president Trump’s order … up to 75% of the recovery costs could be covered by federal funds. The president’s latest disaster declaration, announced on Sunday, will cover damage incurred from Feb. 1 to 23.

In news from up the coast  … the Broad Beach sand saga continues.

Ventura County officials are vowing to file an appeal for a court decision that went against them … on the routes that up to 44 thousand truckloads of sand will take to get to Malibu’s Broad beach.

The Broad Beach  homeowners are paying 31 million dollars to restore a beach that suddenly washed away a decade ago … and bury with sand the rocks that they installed as a temporary protection for their homes.

Last month … a Santa Barbara judge ruled in favor of Moorpark’s plans to route the trucks through Fillmore.

The Acorn newspaper reports that Ventura County Board of Supervisors has unanimously voted to appeal the judge’s ruling.

The Broad beach sand district says it may bring the sand in by barge instead … and has nailed down the sand source to three locations.
